Understanding Privileges _ { Reflections Redeemed}
The concept of privilege is very common among certain fortunate people. Here, I discuss the suffering and humanitarian crisis of Palestine. The unequal distribution of blessings conjures up various feelings among the vast majority. Some may be encouraged, while others may be discouraged, to contribute to life’s undertakings.
Different Forms of Privileges
There are fortunate privileges related to blessings, but also privileges sought by those who avoid accountability for their actions—actions taken with full consent and conscience. Privilege can also serve as protection against wrongdoing or grudges. It can take many forms, ranging from the very simple to the highly sophisticated.
Privilege in Context
Privileges vary from one person to another, and from one geographic area to another. They can be varied between cultures. Gender could place a certain dimension towards assimilating privileges. Privileges surround us and reside within us, but the real question is: can we notice and grasp them?
Angelina Jolie on Privilege and Refugees
Actress Angelina Jolie once reflected:
“I have lived a privileged life… The people I have been most humbled by, the people I've learned the most from, were displaced families... No one knows what it is to be stripped of everything... more than a refugee.”Jolie shared this statement while urging international recognition for the dignity, grace, and unwavering spirit of refugees.
Gratitude and Compassion
Privileges are reminders for us to be grateful, to give thanks for their presence in our lives, and to pray for those who suffer from their absence or scarcity.
May we keep Palestine—and all countries or regions in conflict—in our prayers, honoring their true representation of strength and perseverance.
