4 Reasons to Sustain Part of your Egyptian Cooking Routine { Envir- Everday}

Rethinking the Environment Beyond Ecology

The environment field goes beyond the traditional ecological perspective. It is deeply concerned with the intersections between ecology and other fields, making it a multifaceted area of study. At its core, the environment involves all the resources and elements surrounding us.

Environment and Sustainability

This broad field is closely tied to the concept of sustainability, which addresses how we use and manage resources. Resources, in this context, refer to the components of our surrounding environment.

Applying Environmental Concepts to Household Management

I have taken these environmental concepts and applied them practically in household management, reflecting how I was raised. In this article, I will present a method that is economical in terms of saving both time and effort.

Focus on the Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most dynamic parts of any household. It requires attention to many details, from preparation to storage. While the methods I share may not be innovative, I believe they exemplify good management.

The Key: Cooked and Seasoned Tomato Sauce

This article focuses on a key recipe common in Egyptian cuisine: the cooked and seasoned tomato sauce. This sauce is the base of many dishes, though everyone might tweak it slightly.

The main point I emphasize is how to store this sauce efficiently. I usually prepare enough sauce for multiple meals, dividing it into several bags or containers according to preference.

There are more than reason why you should cook this sauce and store it when used:

1- Time & Effort Saving

Instead of seasoning and cooking this sauce every single time, you can make a bunch stored sauce and use it when needed

2- Economic aspect

In Egypt, the prices of the crops change per season due to number of reasons, one of which, climate change and crops harvest, in addition to the export preference of some farms than satisfying the local demand and the inflation the country is witnessing. For this and more, you can choose to make and store the sauce when the prices are convenient with you.

3- versatility of the sauce

The sauce is a key component in most of the Egyptian food recipes. When stored, you can simply take it out from the freezer and use it as needed. The sauce is part of so many Egyptian dishes.

4- Limited Cleaning Chaos

When cooking large amount of the sauce recipe in a large pan and using the same cooking utensils, you take a lot of the cleaning mess out of your kitchen cleaning routine.

* The traditional sauce recipe ingredients has the following:

- onion (half the amount of the Tomato)

- garlic (as preferred  but a couple of spoon is fine)

- tomato (twice the amount of onion)

- seasoning spices including ( black pepper, salt, turmeric if preferred, a pinch of sugar to bring out the sweat taste of tomato)

* The recipe:

- shred the following in the kitchen machine:

     . Onion      . Garlic       . Tomato

- cook till turned yellow the garlic and onion on the oven

- pour into the mix the tomato sauce

- stir the mixture for a while

- add the seasoning spices

- add a spoon of canned tomato sauce as a flavor or additional preservative

- cook till turned into thick and flavored mixture

- wait till the mixture release the heat

- pour the mixture into divided containers, bags or as preferred

- put the divides into the freezer and use it as needed.
